Real Bride Stories: Donna & Joseph

Donna and Joseph married in May 2021 on the Isle of Lewis at Western Isles Registry. We caught up with Donna to find out all the details.

Joseph and I met at a festival through mutual friends a few years ago. For the proposal he took me to the breath-taking Loch Lomond for a day trip with our daughter, and it was there that he got down on one knee with the most beautiful scenic backdrop. I was speechless!

We had originally planned to get married at the Dalmeny House Hotel, a stunning wedding venue on the very outskirts of Glasgow, but due to Covid we opted for a smaller more intimate wedding with our nearest and dearest.

In the lead up to the wedding I went to wedding fairs and read bridal magazines to get ideas and see how other brides did things.

As for the dress I thought I knew exactly what I wanted; something slim fitting dress with embellishment on it, but I ended up with something completely different. I fell in love with a dress prior to starting dress shopping and it was flowery and lacy, but in the end I felt this made me look like I was playing dress up as I look young for my age.

In total I visited about 5 different bridal boutiques and must have tried on around 30-35 dresses on! In the end I picked Morilee’s Marlena gown from their Blu Collection (style 5506) and absolutely loved it! It gave me such a figure considering I am very slim and don’t have many curves. It fitted in all the right places and had the most beautiful back keyhole opening detail. This was the first dress I tried on in Bijoux Bridal and I fell in love instantly. I picked the dress as a wildcard myself as all the other dresses I picked were very slim and full of lace or details. Marlena was so graceful, elegant and simplistic. I absolutely loved the dress and I can’t even put in to words how special I felt in it, I’ve had so many compliments and I would wear it every day if I could.

To accessorise I bought a Morilee belt in the shop to style with the dress and I wore a beautiful headpiece and a dainty diamond necklace, the dress has such a beautiful back detail and belt it didn’t need much at all!

To be honest overall the wedding was stressful, and it was not the day we planned due to Covid, but it was perfect none the less. I do wish I didn’t stress as much as I did and just believed the day would be perfect regardless. My top tip to other brides would be to enjoy the process and try not to worry.

The best bit for me was getting to walk down the aisle with my papa, he was very proud and emotional. It was the best feeling seeing my husband waiting for me knowing that that was the beginning of our forever with our daughter.
