Real Bride Kathryn got in touch with some amazing photos of her recent wedding, with a year of cancelled weddings we wanted to hear all about it!
“We got married on 23rd December 2020 at the Balbirnie House Hotel, Fife. It is a grade A listed Georgian Mansion built in 1777 nestled in the village of Markinch between Edinbugh and St Andrews. It has 400 acres of beautiful parkland – perfect for wedding photos.
Alistair and I met during our first week at university back in 2013. We were both at the University of Dundee studying to be teachers. On Christmas Eve in 2018 Alistair took me to a hill at Dundee and proposed.”
Tell us all about your wedding dress…
“I always knew that I wanted a winter wedding, so was looking for something with sleeves and Morilee’s Karlee Dress, style 8207, was the first dress that I tried on. I told the ladies in the shop I was having a winter wedding and I wanted sleeves. They instantly thought of this dress and they were spot on. I hadn’t imagined myself in a fitted dress, but it made me feel so confident and bridal. Straight away I had that feeling that I knew it was ‘the one’. I tried on about another 10 dresses to explore different shapes and styles but each time I kept comparing it to the first one. When I got back into the dress my mum and I just knew it was the one to go for. A few months later we returned to try on the dress with the rest of the bridal party and they loved it too.”
Tell us about planning the wedding…
“I loved planning, until the corona pandemic stress kicked in of course. I loved researching ideas I bought Brides magazine to read and I joined a few bridal Facebook groups to get ideas and tips. I made most of the stationary myself and tied in the theme of burgundy into small parts of the day.”
Is there anything else we need to know?
“The best part of day was getting to celebrate our love with our nearest and dearest. While some restrictions were in place, it didn’t feel like it.”
Thank you for sharing with us Kathryn, it is great to hear about a 2020 wedding! We wish you and Alistair much happiness!
