All About Horsehair Fabric

Horsehair – don’t worry is nothing to do with actual horses! It is a structured netting fabric sewn into wedding dresses where a stiffness is needed to hold the structure of a gown in place and create movement in the skirt as the bride walks. It is usually used on hemlines, frills or to distinguish layers and add weight. Let us guide you though our favourite pieces featuring this fabric so you can see what we are talking about…

Sage, style 1030 from our Madeline Gardner collection of couture dresses is a beautiful example of where horsehair has been used on the hemline of the layers of flounced tulle skirt. Shown here in ivory/champagne the gown has elaborate, frosted lace appliques over sequin tulle for an oh so glamourous look. Shown here in ivory/champagne.

Another flounced skirt look trimmed with horsehair is our Audrey (style number 2176) wedding gown from our Morilee Signature collection. Shown here in warm tones of ivory/champagne/honey the bodice is sheer and accentuated with chalk white and crystal beading over frosted embroidered appliques. A very modern day princess look.

If an A-line silhouette is more your style, then you will love Azalea (stye 5870). From our Blu collection of relaxed gowns, it has a sheer sweetheart bodice paired with a soft tulle skirt edged with horsehair for weight. The look is completed with delicate vine inspired boho embroidery. We love this look for a beach or hot summer garden party wedding.

Another straight hemline look is Bernadette, style 2306. Another boho inspired gown, it is a flowing A-line – relaxed and easy to wear. It is made of tulle over glitter tulle with a horsehair trim. The bodice has a delicate beaded illusion neckline and straps, and the gown features delicate frosted embroidered appliques. Shown here in ivory/cappuccino/honey, it is also available in white/porcelain.

Horsehair trims look great on mermaid gowns to ensure the flared structure is held all day long. We love this look on Alexis, style 2182. She has a flounced mermaid skirt pair with a sexy fitted bodice which has sheer cut-out sides and back with a slight plunge covered by net to the neckline. Delicate beaded pearl straps complete the look.

Another great mermaid look trimmed with horsehair is Antonia (style 3306), from our Julietta plus size collection for curvy brides. Available in size 16 to 32 this pretty gown hugs in all the right places with a supportive bust area and tight fit across the tummy and hips. The look in completed with the finest Alencon lace appliques. Available in 2 colour options of ivory/champagne/honey or ivory/honey/porcelain.

Antonia, Style 3306Last, but not least, is our stunningly romantic style 3308, Alyssa gown also from our Julietta collection.
